Beirut1-300x201
Beirut, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) The acting government of Lebanon continues to assess the damage to the silos in the Port of Beirut as a result of the fire in the wheat sheds in recent hours.

After the conclusion of the first stage of extinction of the flames, reports prepared by the Ministries of the Interior, Economy, Public Works and Environment indicated a high risk of falling parts of the north side of the giant silos.

Prime Minister Designate Najib Miqati instructed the corresponding agencies to monitor the dumps and facilitate the work of workers or members of the Civil Defense and the fire department in order to preserve the safety of the site and not expose human lives.

According to the Twitter account of the interim cabinet, the fire in recent days that alarmed the population due to the high columns of smoke broke out as a result of the spread of the fire to the electrical cables outside the barns.

The main factor of the burning responds to spontaneous combustion as a result of climatic factors of around 800 tons of grain, with the temperature of the cereal reaching over 95 degrees Celsius as a result of fermentation.

The authorities warned against the use of water to put out the flames, as it aggravates the situation and increases the fermentation and burning processes.

The Civil Defense published a statement notifying the conclusion of the cooling stage, and detailed that the drop in temperature had an impact on the proliferation of fire, and the environmental conditions in the vicinity of the silos are being assessed before moving on to the second phase.
