“Raw materials and, above all, relatively cheap Russian energy are the necessary conditions for the existence of a competitive German industry, which we cannot do without,” Wagenknecht was quoted as saying by the DPA agency.
According to the former leader of the Left Party faction, the economic war is ruining Germany, while it hardly harms Russia and does not stop the deaths of people in Ukraine, which cannot defeat Russia militarily.
“That’s why we have to negotiate and make compromises,” Wagenknech said, thus supporting the Prime Minister of the German federal state of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, who previously called on the government to play the role of mediator in the conflict of Ukraine.
Another German parliamentarian, Tino Khrupalla, head of the faction of the Alternative for Germany right-wing party in the Bundestag, also agreed with Kretschmer and called for a solution to the conflict in Ukraine via diplomacy, since “otherwise the sanctions regime, with its catastrophic consequences for our prosperity, will never end.”
