On Wednesday, renowned historian and SCJM President Eduardo Torres Cuevas described the day as anxiously awaited, and highlighted the importance of really knowing the ideology of National Hero Jose Marti.
We will not achieve any work if we do not all join forces in Marti’s and Fidel’s projections, and for that we need a unity of conscience and feelings, explained Cuevas, who is also the director of the Marti Program Office.
The place, in the historic center of Cienfuegos, which was designated a World Heritage Site in 2005, was reclassified with a mural work by artist Vladimir Rodriguez and dedicated to Jose Marti (1853-1895), the writer and politician who organized the last war for Cuba’s independence from Spanish colonialism (1895-1898).
The SCJM is a non-governmental, autonomous, non-profit organization created on October 20, 1995, on the occasion of the Day of Cuban Culture, at the initiative of prominent intellectuals Armando Hart, Cintio Vitier, Eusebio Leal, Abel Prieto and Roberto Fernandez Retamar, among others.
