This decision was taken in conformity with the principle of reciprocity and in response to the Ukrainian Government’s move about this issue, a statement issued by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The text recalled that the Ukrainian Government practically severed ties with Syria since 2018, when it refused to revalidate the residence visas of Syrian diplomats at the Embassy in Kiev.
Since then, our mission suspended its duties, as a result of the hostile attitudes of the Ukrainian Government and its total and blind dependence on US and Western policies towards Syria and the world, the communique stated.
On June 29, the Damascus Government recognized the independence and sovereignty of the self-proclaimed Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, located in the Donbas region, and in response, Kiev severed diplomatic ties.
