The investigation, carried out by the group Feminicidios Uruguay, regrets the growth of this scourge, and accuses the government of Luis Lacalle Pou of classifying them as simple homicides due to “sentimental problems.”
The report reveals the names of all murdered victims, and explains that six of 19 cases, 31.5 percent, occurred in this capital.
Figures from recent years indicate that in 2018, 35 gender-based crimes were committed in Uruguay, while in 2019 there were 25 such cases, in 2020, 19 femicides were reported and in 2021 the total rose to 25 again.
