La Paz, Jul 19 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia is expected to exceed 13 billion dollars in exports this year, an amount only reached in 2014 with the sale of hydrocarbons, Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Benjamín Blanco said.

He predicted that this will be a year with higher sales abroad both in value and volume, because “we are breaking records” on this issue, he added.

Interviewed by Bolivia TV, Blanco noted that until last May the country had registered exports worth 5.715 billion dollars, a figure that set a historic record in the nation, with a trade balance of one thousand 92 million dollars.

In that period, non-traditional products such as oilseeds, chestnuts, bananas and manufactured products were the most exported.

He also highlighted the sales of urea and fertilizers, which are the most demanded products in the market.

The minister explained that beef, sunflower derivatives and ethyl alcohol, sugar and quinoa are added to these.

On the other hand, Blanco highlighted the progress in import substitution, and remarked that these “are indicators that show us that the engines of the economy and the country’s productivity have turned on again,” he pointed out.
