Epidemiological situation focuses discussions by Cuban authorities

Health Minister Jose Angel Porta
Havana, Jul 18 (Prensa Latina) The increase in dengue cases and a slight rise in Covid-19 contagions during the last few weeks are the focus on Monday of discussion by health authorities in Cuba.

Faced with this scenario, officials of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) urge the population to raise the perception of risk, take measures to eliminate the mosquito sources in the case of the disease transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, and recommend that vulnerable people wear facemasks to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

Health Minister Jose Angel Portal said the statement in recent days, and pointed out that despite the marked decrease in serious and critical cases, mainly thanks to the vaccination campaign undertaken by the country, the guard to fight Covid-19 should not be lowered.

During 2022, almost more than 140,000 PCR tests were made and the number of coronavirus cases began to decrease as of February, and this has maintained for 11 consecutive weeks, he said.

Regarding dengue, Portal revealed that up to June 10, a total of 3,036 cases of the disease with serotypes 1, 2 and 3 were reported.

Cuba has experience in the management of the disease, the minister said, while remarking on the importance to step up vigilance, as the coming months are usually more complicated in terms of the appearance of new cases.
