UNICEF´s researches showed that “the Cuban Government demonstrates a strong political willingness to guarantee children´s welfare, especially in relation to education and mother and child healthcare.”
In spite of complex changes taking place in the country, there has been at all times an explicit Government-Institution commitment to protect children and adolescents.
The UNICEF´s statement also pointed out that Cuba´s primary education net enrollment rate is 99.1%, and the secondary education net enrollment rate is 96.4%.
On the other hand, all births are registered and 99.9% of them are given at hospitals, aided by qualified health personnel.
Among other aspects, UNICEF highlighted Cuba´s priority to care for disable people as part of a social policy aimed at raising their quality of life and equal opportunities.
Recently, the Public Health Ministry (MINDSAP, in Spanish) reported that 97.8% of children and adolescents aging 2 to 18 have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, following immunization of over 1,919,108 people of those ages.
