New Covid-19 wave increases pressure in French hospitals

Paris, Jul 13 (Prensa Latina) The seventh wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in France rises pressure on local hospitals, where 19,580 people are being hospitalized, and 1,184 of them in ICUs.

In its daily update on the Covid-19 impact, the Public Health France reported 420 more hospitalized people and 26 seriously-ill patients than on Tuesday´s.

If current trend continues, France will exceed 20,000 Covid-19 hospitalized people before weekend comes.

Regarding new infections in the last 24 hours, the French health entity reported 127,642 cases and 109 deaths.

According to Public Health France, the coronavirus incidence is 1,342 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a rise due to the spread of the BA.5 omicron subvariant.

For such reasons, the National Assembly passed early Wednesday a health bill to deal with the Covid-19 rebound, but the opposition managed to remove from the text the article related to possible return of health pass at border checkpoints.
