Ramallah, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian Prisoners Club affirmed that the future of detainees in Israeli prisons must be a key issue in the talks between President Mahmoud Abbas and his US counterpart, Joe Biden.

The entity issued a statement saying that the Palestinian leadership should raise the issue during this week’s meeting with Biden, who will visit Ramallah as part of a regional tour that will also take him to Israel and Saudi Arabia.

The Club recalled that 25 Palestinians remain imprisoned since the signing of the so-called Oslo Accords in 1994.

“The demand for their release will be an indicator to measure any change we expect from the current US administration with respect to its predecessors”, the entity said.

Last week four non-governmental organizations revealed in a joint statement that the Israeli military arrested 3,873 Palestinians in the first half of 2022.

464 people were detained in the occupied territories in June alone, including 70 minors and 18 women.

The document was prepared by the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Commission, the Palestinian Prisoners Society, the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association and the Wadi Hilweh Information Center.

They highlighted that 4,650 Palestinians are currently locked up in Israeli jails.
