Colombians from different social and political sectors, the solidarity movement, Cuban residents and representatives of indigenous peoples gathered at the Havana Embassy in Bogota on Monday to accompany Cuba in the commemoration of these two dates.
They recalled that the attacks on the Moncada Garrison, in Santiago de Cuba, and the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Garrison, in Bayamo, both in eastern Cuba, on July 26, 1953, were two events that marked the history of the Caribbean nation.
Although in neither of those two actions the young attackers led by leader Fidel Castro achieved the objectives from the military point of view, they raised public awareness and began to develop the epic feat that led to the definitive victory on January 1, 1959.
They also recalled the victory by the Cuban people and the international solidarity after the July 11, 2021 events, when vandalistic groups tried to subvert the constitutional order of the island.
A short documentary produced by Prensa Latina on the support for many Colombians to Cuba in difficult times, particularly around the attempted coup occurred last year, was screened at the fraternal event.
