Mogadishu, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) warned that at least 200 children in Somalia have died of malnutrition since January, with the country witnessing "catastrophic food insecurity" for the first time since 2017.

The UN humanitarian affairs agency also pointed out that over 800,000 people are displaced and 5,830 suspected cholera cases were reported in 24 districts due to the water shortage of water in this territory.

At the beginning of past May, the FAO representative in Somalia, Etinenne Peterschmitt, stated the country demands, as a contribution from the international community, $131.4 million.

She said that, amid the risk of a humanitarian catastrophe due to famine, the financial resources will also be used to safeguard livelihoods and support food producers.

Previously, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, Adam Abdelmoul, asserted that the lack of rainfall impacts, on the other hand, livestock and agricultural crops.
