Potential criminal prosecution of Donald Trump is growing closer

Washington, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) Former President Donald Trump seems to be closer to criminal prosecution following six hearings by the House of Representatives committee on the January 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol, the largest in its history.

In the TV appearances, the investigation committee showed extraordinary evidence that Donald Trump intentionally obstructed Congress´s certification of Joe Biden´s victory in 2020, the assault on US Capitol, local media commented.

According to reports, the committee found manifold evidence indicating a case could be opened, although they do not have power to indict Donald Trump for any crime. However, the US Justice Department could, a possibility that has fueled intense speculation in Washington.

The extraordinary revelations to the committee, on Tuesday, by the twenty-six-year-old former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson regarding Trump’s actions and statements on and in the lead-up to January 6th strengthened a potential criminal case against him.

Ms. Hutchinson seemed to associate Trump with strong ties to Jan. 6 rioters, noting she recalled hearing the following words “Oath Keeper” and “Proud Boys” closer to Jan. 6 rally planning.

For some specialists, Hutchinson’s revelations seemed to be the one that brought Donald Trump closest to proved criminal behavior, pointing out he knew his followers were carrying weapons on the demonstration day held before the Capitol assault.

An article published The Hill newspaper stressed about the political damage suffered by the former president during the hearings, which is giving Senate GOPers running for coming 2024 elections.

Presidential candidates including Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Tom Cotton (R-Ark) and Josh Hawley (R-Mass) largely avoided defending Trump against the January 6 hearings revelations, positioning themselves instead to take advantage if he was too committed to show up after two years.
