The decision, adopted at the ECOWAS summit held in Accra, capital of Ghana, on Sunday, and announced on the media earlier Monday, takes different perspectives for the countries concerned: Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea.
The meeting, convened to review the restrictions, adopted specific positions as, in the case of Mali, suspended the economic and financial embargo and approved the return to that country of the ambassadors of ECOWAS member states, but maintained its suspension as a member.
The summit meeting also approved the timetable presented by the military Government of Burkina Faso to hold elections and, in addition, complied with the demand for the release of ousted President Roch Marc Christian Kabore.
Regarding Guinea, the conclave was more cautious, as it limited itself to grant one month so that the military authorities propose a new transition plan to replace the 36-month timetable the regional group described as “unthinkable” by the African Union.
