According to Haavisto, the situation on the border between the two countries is currently calm, while Finland keeps its embassy open in Moscow.
“We have many families on both sides of the border, we must remember this on a human level, regardless of disagreements on the political level,” the foreign minister said.
According to him, the problem is that after the conflict in Ukraine began, trust between Russia and the EU disappeared and it will take time to restore it.
Haavisto expressed conviction that this trust will return one day, but it is very difficult now to say how and when.
