La Repubblica, Corriere della Sera and other national newspapers coincide in highlighting the victory, in places with relevant political influence, of the candidates of the Democratic Party (PD) and the Five Star Movement (M5S), the main forces that make up the coalition.
More than two million voters should cast their votes in some 65 communities, but finally, only 42 percent of them turned out to vote.
Although the right-wing forces prevailed in some localities, their results meant a setback in relation to those achieved in the first election round.
The relevance of these elections is even greater due to the proximity of the general elections, scheduled for May 2023, and the fact that they were held amid important changes in the country’s political scenario.
