Role of youth in strengthening socialism highlighted in Cuba

Havana, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) The president of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, highlighted the eve the contributions of young people to the country and the importance of their proposals to continue strengthening socialism.

At the National Capitol, the also president of the Council of State spoke with 110 young managers and workers from the Ministries of Internal Trade, Communications, Transportation and Tourism, whom he asked for feedback for representing sensitive sectors for the population.

Lazo stressed that in the current context, the island needs collective opinions, initiative and creativity, as well as the contribution of the population, especially the new generations, in the face of the blockade imposed by the United States, the Covid-19 pandemic and other challenges.

“From this moment we are going to come out with your contribution, drive, innovation, creative resistance and popular participation in the face of difficulties,” assured the head of the Cuban legislature.

According to the website of the Assembly, the meeting was also attended by representatives of the permanent work commissions for attention to Youth, Children, Equal Rights for Women, and Services, in addition to other deputies and representatives of organisms.

The head of Attention to Youth, Children and Equal Rights for Women, Arelys Santana, stressed that the invitation was due to the interest of the country’s top leadership in promoting debate with the different social sectors.

“You have important responsibilities and tasks committed to the present and future development of our country; it is a source of revolutionary pride to share with the younger generation,” she said.

The attendees received a conference on the Cuban political system from the constitutional design, given by Rogelio Ginebra Gort, legal advisor to the National Assembly.

Similarly, the participants shared experiences on the actions carried out in times marked by the Covid-19 pandemic and gave examples of their work in communities undergoing transformation to improve living conditions.

There were criteria on the relevance of allocating resources to projects that contribute to exports, import substitution and foreign exchange earnings for the national economy, as well as promoting international cooperation programs.

The participants called for consolidating training actions and stimulating the link in each work center between experience and youth to promote the different projects. In addition, they called to identify the obstacles that hinder the development of the different sectors and permanently involve the new generations in the decision-making process in the institutions.
