Through digital platforms, the President spoke from the Quinta de Olivos residence in the meeting organized by Beijing and to which he was invited by his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
The Argentine head of state expressed his country’s aspiration to become a member of the Brics, “whose members represent 42 percent of the world’s population and 24 percent of the global gross product”.
This group constitutes a platform with enormous capacities to discuss and implement an agenda for the future that will lead us to a better and fairer time. We want to join this mechanism and make our contributions, he further said.
On the other hand, he thanked the BRICS nations for supporting the Argentinean claim over the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands (Falklands) and the return to dialogue with the United Kingdom.
Fernandez stressed the importance of promoting peace, solidarity among nations, cooperation and justice.
He also urged an end to violence and interference in the internal affairs of States, as well as to guarantee respect for territorial integrity, human rights and diversity as a central requirement for democratic coexistence.
