Washington, Jun 20 (Prensa Latina) The Universidad del Sagrado Corazon, in USA, recommended preventing children from consuming ultra-processed foods, as these impact their locomotor skills and cardiovascular system in the long term, a scientific source revealed on Monday.

“The study pointed to the need to educate families about cost-effective ways to mitigate their ultra-processed food intake in order to help reduce the cardiovascular health risk problems in children,” the US scientists reported.

Healthy diets and exercises are proposed to make and practice at a very young age,” the specialists stressed in their fullpaper that will be submitted at Nutrition-2022 Live Online, the main annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition.

The research found that children with lowest locomotor skills scores consumed 273 more ultra-processed food calories per day than children with lowest ultra-processed foods intake.

According to specialized information, ultra-processed foods are food and drink products that have undergone specified types of food processing, usually by transnational and other very large ‘Big food’ corporations.

In this study, such products were classed as packaged snacks, breakfast cereals, candies, soft drinks, sugary juices and yogurts, canned soups, and prepared foods such as pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken nuggets.
