On Twitter, Nicolás Maduro described as historic the electoral victory of the alternative and leftist political forces in this Sunday´s elections in Colombia.

“I congratulate Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez for their historic electoral victory in in Colombia´s presidential elections. The will of the Colombian people, who came out to shield the pathway of democracy and peace, was quite heard. New times are in sight for Colombia”, Maduro tweeted.

The first Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV, in Spanish), Diosdado Cabello, asserted that in this Sunday’s electoral process “the deep Colombia, the one that hurts in the Bolivarian feelings, seeking its peace and with it the peace of an entire region, was the one that spoke”.

“We support and embrace the great victory of a people that has withstood one and a thousand attacks from drug trafficking; (…) Colombia voted for a change, we wish Gustavo Petro and Vice President Márquez the greatest success, to the Colombian people: a Bolivarian hug”, stressed the socialist leader.
