Beirut, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) The acting Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Miqati, defended the right of Palestine to exist as an independent State with Jerusalem as its capital.

Upon receiving the Advisory Committee of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the interim chief of staff assured that there will be no stability in the region and in the world until this cause has been resolved.

Miqati stressed the need to continue supporting UNRWA for the benefit of the Palestinian population and called on donor countries to contribute to improving the needs in the refugee camps, and highlighted the work of the Palestine-Lebanon Dialogue Committee in following up on issues related to the conditions of these citizens in the country.

He stressed that the Palestinian cause will remain present in the minds and conscience of all Lebanese and peoples of the world until the return to a safe nation without threats has been achieved. The meeting was attended by the UNRWA Commissioner General, Philip Lazzarini, the president of the Palestinian-Lebanon Dialogue Committee, Basil Al-Hassan, and members of delegations from 29 countries and observers from the European Union, the League of United Arab Countries, the Organization of Islamic and Palestinian Cooperation.

The exchange with Miqati brought to a close the two-day meeting in Beirut of the UNRWA Advisory Committee, in which he addressed the strategies, activities and services to be implemented in the coming months in favor of Palestinian refugees.
