Hurtado, an Andalusian based in Barcelona, journalist and director of the documentary “Herencia” (Inheritance), about Cuba’s cultural roots, stressed that Prensa Latina was founded shortly after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, on June 16, 1959. Few Latin American and world agencies are so loyal to the truth and so dignified, without responding to the economic and capitalist interests; it is an honor for me as a journalist by training to congratulate this media on its foundation, she commented.
She took the opportunity to highlight her relations with Prensa Latina, after being repeatedly interviewed due to her work as a filmmaker and solidarity activist for Cuba.
She also praised the fact that Prensa Latina was founded on the initiative of Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara, with Argentinian journalist Jorge Ricardo Masetti as its first director.
Earlier, Basque intellectual Jose Manzaneda referred to the value and validity of Prensa Latina on its 63rd anniversary, which he described as an inspiration in the struggle for the truth.
