The UN Population Award has been awarded annually since 1983, after having been established by the General Assembly in November 1981 through resolution 36/201.
Composed of 10 representatives of UN member States, the committee honored Niger’s Commissioner Hassane Haousseize Zouera, an advocate for children’s and women’s rights, in 2021.
ECOSOC is responsible for promoting the three pillars of the sustainable development (economic, social and environmental) and has among its objectives to follow up on major UN conferences and summits.
