The brutal attack on the airport’s infrastructure caused considerable damage to runways, navigation lighting systems and the second terminal, the ministry added in a statement.
It further pointed out that flights were suspended until further notice, and civil aviation officials and specialized national companies are working to repair the damage.
Once the works have been completed and safety has been guaranteed, the airport will resume operations, in coordination with the airlines, the agency said.
Facilities surrounding the airport were bombed on several occasions by Israel under the pretext of preventing the arrival of military equipment supplied by Iran.
The Syrian government condemned these actions and deplored the silence of the United Nations in the face of these attacks, as well as ratified the right to defend the integrity and sovereignty of the national territory by all legitimate means.
