Palestinian prisoner sent to hospital after 100-day strike in Israel

Ramallah, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) The Israel Prison Service (IPS) transferred Palestinian prisoner Khalil Awawdeh, who completed 100 days of hunger strike this Friday, to a hospital due to his poor health condition, an NGO announced.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club warned in a communique about the high deterioration of Awawdeh’s vital functions.

Awawdeh was arrested under the so-called administrative detention.

This is a mechanism used by Tel Aviv to detain Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals usually ranging from three to six months on the basis of undisclosed evidence that even the defendant’s lawyer is barred from seeing.

Many detainees held under that policy systematically go on indefinite hunger strikes to denounce their case and force the Israeli authorities to release them.

Earlier this month, the IPS rejected a request to transfer Awawdeh and Raed Rayyan at a hospital because of their poor health condition due to their hunger strike.
