Russia’s deputy prime minister and envoy of the president for the Far East, Yuri Trutnev, said that in today’s divided world, this bridge has a special and symbolic meaning because it becomes another thread of friendship between the peoples of both countries.

The bridge is 1,080 meters long, of which each country built 540 meters, the construction began in 2016 with the participation of thousands of workers from both nations, the senior Russian official said in a videoconference.

The first vehicles crossed the bridge on Friday; eight Russian tractors were delivered to China, while China supplied Russia with car tires and components for electrical equipment.

The Russian Minister of Transport, Vitali Saveliev, stressed that the commissioning of this link on the Amur will increase trade with China by up to one million tons a year.

He stressed that it will provide the necessary infrastructure for the development of the Russian Priamurskaya region, will contribute to reducing transport costs for companies, will allow neighboring regions to reduce the export and import route more than three times, and will stimulate the realization of joint investment projects.

About the construction, engineers explained that both parts of the bridge were raised synchronously on the two banks of the river, and were coupled on May 31st, 2019. This is the second cross-border viaduct in the Russian Far East. The first, a railway bridge, was completed on April 27th, 2022.
