In the context of the Cuban Week in that picturesque city located very close to Paris, Leon acknowledged in an interview with Prensa Latina the initiative to dedicate this year’s event to “son,” a genre he considered indissolubly linked to the identity of his country.
“Son” is very important for us because we are working on the presentation to the UNESCO of the Cuban Son’s candidacy file for its inscription as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity,” he said, referring to the announcement made during the festival that the documentation will be submitted in March 2023.
According to the deputy minister, the event, which these days crowded the Center Des Arts (CDA) of Enghien-les-Bains with concerts, exhibitions, keynote speeches and dance classes, is the consolidation and continuity of many years of work.
Leon highlighted the figure of Dominique Roland, a Frenchman passionate about Cuban music and director of the CDA, who in recent decades has studied and researched the “son” tradition of the Caribbean nation, from its origins to the present.
Leon highlighted the scenario of the Cuban Week in Enghien-les-Bains to show the continuity of the development of the artistic training on the island.
