Sacha Llorenti denounces arbitrary nature of Summit of the Americas

Caracas, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) ALBA-TCP Executive Secretary Sacha Llorenti denounced the arbitrary and politically motivated nature of the so-called Summit of the Americas, developing in the United States on Thursday without the presence of several nations of the hemisphere.

“This meeting in Los Angeles cannot be called or a Summit or of the Americas, because the host arrogated to himself the right to exclude three countries of our region,” Llorenti stressed during an interview granted to Venezuela News.

In this sense, the head of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) pointed out that the exclusion of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua is an arbitrary and politically motivated decision, which marked the failure of the meeting before beginning.

This situation exalted the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) as the privileged space for the regional integration, the ALBA-TCP secretary said.

Sacha Llorenti warned that the United States is not interested in the integration of the region, or democracy or human rights; “the speeches are only to impose its agenda and use any scenario for its hegemonic purposes,” he said.

During the 21st Summit of Heads of State and Government held in Havana on May 27, the ALBA-TCP condemned the discriminatory treatment of the United States towards Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

The countries of the integrationist bloc considered the unilateral exclusion of those nations as a serious historical setback in the hemispheric relations that offends the Latin American and Caribbean peoples.

In the final declaration of the high-level meeting, the Alliance ratified its commitment to the integration and the union of the peoples of the region, in line with the principles of solidarity, social justice, cooperation and economic complementarity.
