“Our country rejects the assessments far removed from reality expressed in that document, which was built with a superficial and myopic approach, and which ignores the evident need to strengthen bilateral relations,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The European Parliament has lost credibility and trust in the eyes of Turkish society, added the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey in relation to the non-binding report released by the community body that blames Ankara for a setback in human rights.
“We hope that the European Parliament does not become an “instrument on the agenda of some narrow minds”, and that it promotes a positive attitude to resume accession negotiations, suspended since 2018,” the statement added.
In this regard, the Foreign Ministry called on the EU institutions to fulfill their commitments regarding the dialogue on the abolition of visas, the expansion of cooperation in the fight against terrorism, as well as the implementation of the plan for the voluntary readmission of the refugees.
It went on to disqualify what it defined as “unfounded assessments of the community entity on democracy, the supremacy of the law and human rights” in Turkey.
