The Armed Forces posted via Twitter a video of the aerial units in the works to put out the fire in the forest area in order to prevent its spread to the neighboring regions of Akkar governorate, one of the major forest reserves in the country.
Acting Environment Minister Nasser Yassin tweeted the fire control works and a preliminary image revealed the start of the fire in three nearby locations.
Yassin called on the security forces and the Judiciary to thoroughly investigate the incident and to be strict with those who caused the fires.
The fire started on Tuesday evening in an area full of trees and characterized by abundant rocks and steep slopes that makes extinguishing operations difficult.
The ecological tragedy takes place in the context of the National Week for the Prevention of Forest Fires promoted by the Ministry of Environment to raise awareness among the population about the need to protect the forests for the benefit of the planet’s health.
