“As part of the planned exercises, more than 20 military ships and boats are deployed at the Baltic Fleet’s training grounds, conducting combat training tasks both individually and as part of search and attack groups.”
According to the press service of the Fleet, corvettes, patrol boats, missile boats, frigates, minesweepers, as well as landing craft and speedboats are involved in the exercise.
A group of these ships along with Il-38 patrol aircraft are tracking the presence of enemy submarines using radar and sonar equipment, as well as the weaponry designated to this end.
Another aspect of the exercise will see the Russian ships practice firing on air and sea targets, practice conducting electronic warfare, training in radiological, chemical and biological protection, in addition to repairing damage caused to ships mid-battle.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, for its part, is carrying out the Baltops 2022 military exercise between June 5th and June 16th in the central and southern regions of the Baltic Sea.
The bloc will also conduct drills in coastal training areas in Germany, Sweden, Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, with an estimated 44 ships and around 100 aircraft from 14 member countries taking part.
