More than 71,000 Brazilians out of home after rains

Brasilia, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) More than 71,000 people on Monday remain outside their home, 11 days after the rains began to hit the northeast Brazilian state of Pernambuco, where 128 deaths were reported.

Released this Sunday and quoted by G1 website, data offered by the State Civil Defense Coordination (Codecipe) also indicates that the rainfalls, due to the fall of barriers and floods, left 61,596 people evicted and 9,631 have been displaced.

According to the Codecipe, the National Civil Defense uses the term eviction to define a person who, after a disaster, went to a relative’s house.

A displaced person, the agency reported, is someone who is in a public or private shelter.

Also according to the survey, the numbers were transferred by the municipalities to the Operations Center. The Codecipe states that the displaced are distributed in 123 shelters in 31 cities.

In total, 54 municipalities have reported damages due to rainfalls.
