“As of the end of the business day on May 30th, Gazprom Export had not received payment for gas supplies in April from GasTerra BV in accordance with Russian Presidential Decree No. 172 of March 31st, 2022,” the entity explained via a statement.
It also explained that GasTerra BV received timely notification of the new mechanisms established for the payment of fuel as of April 1st.
GasTerra announced earlier that it had decided not to comply with Gazprom’s requirements for payment for gas supply in rubles.
The consortium justified its decision alleging that payments under the new scheme could lead to a violation of the sanctions imposed by the European Union, as well as the fact of possible financial and operational risks associated with the required settlement method.
Russia supplied natural gas to the Netherlands under a long-term contract concluded in 2000 for 20 years, which was subsequently extended until October 1st, 2022.
