The Defense Ministry stressed that the launch was part of the testing of new Russian weapons and, according to control data, the missile hit the sea-borne target after following a flight path as set by pre-established parameters.
In February 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in his speech to Russia’s Parliament that the Tsirkon missile is capable of speeds equal to Mach 9 and has a range in excess of a thousand kilometers.
On August 24th last year, during the Army 2021 military-technical forum, the Russian military-industrial complex signed a contract for the supply of Tsirkon missiles to the Russian Ministry of Defense, and in last December, Russia confirmed their successful tests.
According to local media, the exact tactical and technical characteristics of the Tsirkon missile are secret and state tests from an aircraft carrier are nearing completion.
