Japanese solidarity committee receives distinction from Cuban entity

Tokyo, May 27 (Prensa Latina) The Cubapon Solidarity Committee received the commemorative award of the 60th Anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).

The Cuban ambassador, Miguel Angel Ramirez, presented the award to Kazuie Kimijima, a member of the representative committee of Cubapón, during the ceremony held at the Cuban embassy.

Ramirez stressed that the recognition is granted exceptionally to those around the world who maintain an active work in defense of the Cuban Revolution and contribute to spreading Cuba’s political, social and economic transformations.

The award recognizes the contribution of the honored association to the strengthening of ties between the peoples of Cuba and Japan, Ramirez stressed.

“I would like to highlight the Committee’s valuable contribution in recent times to the Cuban people’s fight against the United States blockade and the Covid-19 pandemic, which has been reflected in the moral support and donations made to my country’s health system,” Ramirez said.

For his part, Kimijima expressed his gratitude for the awarding of the medal and recalled a number of visits made by members of Cubapon to Cuba for almost two decades.

He also mentioned that the Japanese group contributed to the increase in rice production in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, where a community of Japanese descendants (Nikkei) keep a strong link with Japan and cooperate in the construction of a house of friendship.

Several members of the Cubapon Solidarity Committee and other Cuban diplomatic officials accredited in Tokyo participated in the event.
