According to specialists from the National Civil Defense General Staff (EMNDC), among the instructions for the event, which will last until Sunday, May 22, is to assess the forecast for the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30.

The exercise will allow updating the disaster risk reduction plans and reviewing the rescue and life-saving services for response and recovery actions, taking into account the existing complex epidemiological situation, despite the control of the Covid-19 pandemic in Cuba.

The EMNDC stated that participants in these drills will make emphasis on the preservation of the economic resources in case of the effects caused by natural or technological phenomena and the impacts of climate change.

They will also review the measures to deal with a possible increase in the Aedes aegypti mosquito infestation during the rainy season, which began this month, and the actions to counter the effects of drought.

Meteoro is an annual exercise conducted by the Cuban Civil Defense since 1996 to prepare its members and the population in general for different disaster situations.
