Under the slogan “The Power of Museums,” the celebration will last until Saturday, May 21, and includes, among other activities, keynote speeches, workshops, exhibitions, guided tours and concerts.
Among the proposals are the keynote speech “Museums of the Historic Center: the power to transform,” by Michael Gonzalez, director of Cultural Heritage of the OHCH, at 10:00 hours, local time, at the Museum of the City.
The exhibitions of banknotes and coins, dedicated to the arts at the Numismatic Museum; photography “Hilos de Identidad” at the Casa de la Obrapia, and the inauguration of the “Vajillas de familias cubanas” hall at the Lombillo Palace, are also on the list.
Among the guided tours are those organized to the Oswaldo Guayasamin House, the Simon Bolivar House-Museum, the Planetarium and the Santo Domingo de Atares Castle, one of the colonial-era fortresses in charge of the defense of the former Villa of San Cristobal de La Habana.
Meanwhile, the cultural program announces for Wednesday a concert by flutist Niurka Gonzalez and pianist Marcos Madrigal at the Saint Francis of Asis Convent Minor Basilica, and a keynote speech on comic museums in the world.
This activity will take place at the Vitrina de Valonia Cultural Center at 15:00 hours, local time, conducted by cultural promoter Haziel Scull Suarez.
The International Museum Day has been celebrated every year since 1977, to raise awareness of the importance of these institutions for the cultural exchange, the enrichment of cultures, and the development of mutual understanding, collaboration and peace among the peoples.
