During his explanation on the conditions of Cuba as a destination for future investments from Iran, Cabrisas highlighted that inclement weather may threaten the development of productive activities in Cuba.
Cabrisas spoke of the severe effects that Cuba has faced in recent years due to the effects of climate change on the first day of the 18th Session of the Iran-Cuba Intergovernmental Commission.
He explained the complexities that this presents for Cuba due to its status as an island state and its geographical position in the Caribbean Sea, with long periods of intense droughts, frequent hurricanes, tropical and subtropical storms.
The natural phenomena cause torrential rains with heavy flooding and directly affect the sugar harvest and agricultural and livestock production in general, he said.
In particular, he highlighted the fact that the accumulated losses in the country due to these causes currently amount to billions of pesos.
