Said representatives offered their condolences by signing the Open Book in Cuba’s embassy in Damascus in honor of the deceased former Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs and former president of the Cuban Parliament.
The attendees recorded their admiration and respect for Alarcón’s work, and highlighted his brilliance, wisdom and experience. They express their solidarity with the victims of the explosion that occurred on May 6th at the Saratoga hotel in Havana.
“We extend to the government and people of Cuba our sincere condolences for the physical disappearance of (…) Alarcon,” said Mohamed Jary, president of the Syria-Cuba Friendship Group in the People’s Assembly.
The Cuban ambassador to Syria, Miguel Porto Parga, thanked the expressions of condolences and considered that they correspond to the solid and historical ties of friendship between Damascus and Havana.
Ricardo Alarcon (1937-2022) was Foreign Minister of Cuba between 1992 and 1993, a position where he set guidelines in the development of the island’s foreign policy. He presided over Parliament for 20 years and is also recognized for his tireless fight for the return of the five Cuban anti-terrorists imprisoned in the United States.
