Siria, FAO, cooperación, agricultura
Damascus, May 13 (Prensa Latina) Cooperation in the agricultural sector was the focus of the talks between the Syrian Prime Minister, Hussein Arnous, and the deputy director of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Abdul-Hakim Rajab Elwaer.

According to a press release issued by the government, the officials reviewed ways to boost this cooperation to include new fields and build a more effective partnership that will have a positive impact on farmers facing difficulties resulting from war and sanctions.

The press release also reported that the joint work will take into account the national priorities proposed to improve livelihoods in the countryside and the income of rural families, and ensure basic resources to recover the wheel of agricultural production.

The head of the Syrian Executive offered an explanation about the damage caused to the agricultural sector by the war and terrorism, and the government efforts to recover the sector, which he described as vital.

Despite the unjust economic blockade by the United States and the European Union that has created many difficulties for agriculture such as the shortage of equipment, fertilizers and petroleum derivatives, Syria achieved food security and self-sufficiency in many products.

For his part, the deputy director of FAO expressed his willingness to work to ensure the necessary resources to improve the agricultural situation and promote the return of families to their lands.
