The local press indicated that on Thursday, 18,000 individuals were experiencing fever symptoms and at least 187,800 are being isolated. These data are revealed a day after the country confirmed its first Covid-19 case since the outbreak of the pandemic and implemented lockdown to stop the spread of its Omicron variant.
According to reports, the contagion was identified during the tests of samples from several patients sick with fever in Pyongyang and the investigations revealed the presence of Omicron BA.2 variant.
DPRK leader Kim Jong-un visited the State Emergency Prophylaxis Command on Thursday, reviewed the situation and considered imperative to stop the ways the virus is transmitted, block the regions, and isolate and treat patients with fever to overcome the current health crisis.
After the news of the Covid-19 cases were announced here, China assured that it is ready to provide Pyongyang with the necessary support in the fight against the disease, while South Korea offered to send it vaccines.
The DPRK has so far been one of the few countries that remained without reporting Covid-19 cases, following the first report of that disease in China during 2019 and the subsequent outbreak of its pandemic in early 2020.
