On May 6, an explosion, due to a liquefied gas leak, destroyed most of the hotel’s façade and damaged several adjacent buildings, included an elementary school.
So far, 44 people have been killed and nearly 100 have been injured as a result of the explosion, while rescue forces are still looking for a person reported missing.
Most of those killed and injured in the explosion worked at the hotel facility, which was scheduled to begin welcoming guests this week, after being closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic for two years.
