Beijing, May 11 (Prensa Latina) China on Wednesday reported that inflation closed with a 2.1 percent year-on-year increase in April, above the previous month and motivated by a rise in the price of several food items amid the new outbreak of Covid-19.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in general, food price rose 0.9 points and the price of pork, a staple meat in the country, increased 1.5 percent.

Non-food prices rose 2.2 percent and those of gasoline, diesel and liquefied gas went up by 29 percent, 31.7 percent and 26.9 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, wholesale inflation in the industrial sector rose eight percent and the figure was slightly lower than in March thanks to measures to curb the rising cost of raw materials and energy.

Since April, the Bureau warned that inflation could soar above two points, as the country remains under the siege of the new outbreak of Covid-19 and several socioeconomic sectors are suffering disruptions.
