Spain’s King and Queen send message to Cuban president

Madrid, May 8 (Prensa Latina) The tragic accident at a hotel in Havana, on Sunday motivated a message from King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, of Spain, in which they expressed "sadness and consternation" to Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

As a result of the explosion, due to a liquefied gas leak at the Saratoga Hotel in downtown Havana, 27 people were killed, 19 are missing and 81 were injured, according to the latest official estimates.

Felipe VI and Letizia also expressed their deepest condolences to Diaz-Canel, who underlined their support and solidarity with the families of the deceased.

“United to the pain of the Cuban friendly people, we show support and solidarity to the families of the deceased and the best wishes of recovery for the injured,” the monarchs wrote in their message.

In the accident, a Spanish tourist also lost her life and her husband was seriously injured. The body of the young woman from Galicia will be repatriated to Spain later this week, according to unofficial sources.

On Saturday, President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, wrote on his Twitter account a message of affection and support to the Cubans in the wake of an explosion at the Saratoga Hotel in Havana.
