Cuba reports 30 dead and 84 injured in accident at Saratoga hotel

Havana, May 8 (Prensa Latina) At least 30 people died as a result of the explosion that occurred last Friday at the Saratoga hotel in Havana and 84 were injured, the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) updated today.

On the website, the portfolio detailed that of the total deceased, 16 are male and 14 female, of these four minors, one pregnant and one foreigner of Spanish nationality.

Of the 84 reported injured, 30 have already been discharged, while 24 remain in seven hospitals, including 19 adults and five children. The adults admitted are divided into 10 men and nine women, four reported critical, five serious and 10 of care. In relation to the infants, one is in a rehab room, while four are in intensive care, three are critical and one is seriously ill.

Minsap reiterated its gratitude to all the agencies, organizations and people in general, for the support of the actions carried out with the patients and their families, as well as the concern shown by those hospitalized.

A representative tourist space in Havana, the Saratoga hotel suffered last Friday around 11:00 local time, the collapse of several structures, including the side and front facades, caused by an explosion, when a tanker truck with liquefied gas was serving their facilities.

Forces from the Ministries of Construction, Public Health and the Interior, including firefighters and rescue and rescue teams, as well as the authorities of the Communist Party and the Government, have been working tirelessly at the scene since then.
