The minister will represent Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel at the 2022 inauguration ceremony in Costa Rica on Sunday, when Carlos Alvarado will hand over the presidential sash to Chaves, who will thus assume the leadership of this country for the 2022-2026 period.
The director of Central America and the Caribbean at Cuba’s Foreign Ministry, Gustavo Veliz, and Ambassador to Costa Rica Jorge Rodriguez, complete the Cuban delegation at the inauguration ceremony.
Delegations from 97 countries and international organizations have confirmed attendance at the ceremony, including King of Spain Felipe VI, and the leaders of Panama, the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Kosovo.
The 2022-2026 Commission for the Transfer of Powers noted that the prime ministers of Haiti and Curacao, and the president of the Moroccan government also guaranteed their presence.
