“Western countries were preparing for this onslaught in advance. You are simply stealing, in the best tradition of the Wild West,” the Russian ambassador said on Thursday, as published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Nebenzia argued that apart from sanctions and appropriation of the private property of Russian citizens, the West froze Russia’s bank accounts worth 300 billion dollars.
“What international law are you talking about then?” asked the diplomat, who stressed that the actions in question constitute a robbery against the Russian people and government.
He added that Ukraine should have no illusions, as “Western countries are not going to help it, except through arms supplies and attempts to prolong the conflict.” “We have repeatedly talked about our security concerns. You in the West put it aside, didn’t take it seriously,” Nebenzia said.
“You assured the purely defensive character of NATO, while pushing the bloc’s borders towards ours. Today there is already talk of the alliance’s global role, including in Asia,” he said.
In this regard, he was emphatic in denouncing that NATO and its allies do not need Ukraine as a member, “on the contrary, they use it as a stage of confrontation against Russia.”
“The West is already waging war with Russia using the proxy war method. Today we cannot get tired of being even more surprised at the hypocrisy of our Western partners,” said Russia’s permanent representative to the UN.
