The session begins with the screening of the documentary film “Cuidador de cuidadores” (Caregiver of Caregivers), by filmmaker and director of the Palomas Community Project, Lissette Vila, and immediately after, participants will address the final summary of this Americas Region Conference and the action plan for the next working stage.
A total of 220 foreign and Cuban delegates attending the meeting learned on Thursday about the current situation of the elderly in several countries of the continent.
CTC General Secretary Ulises Guilarte thanked in his speech the development of the event in Havana and affirmed that the presence of the delegations is an act of courage and deep revolutionary convictions.
During the event, specialists of the Ministries of Public Health, Labor and Social Security, as well as of the Union of Jurists of Cuba and the National Office of Statistics and Information presented studies on the care for retirees and pensioners.
Experts and academics agreed that the Cuban population is aging rapidly, and the state and Government have as a priority to protect the elderly and offer them a safe and dignified life.
