According to practically all the polls, Petro is not only ahead of Federico Gutierrez, of the right-wing Equipo por Colombia; Rodolfo Hernandez, of the Anti-Corruption Governors League; and Sergio Fajardo, of Centro Esperanza, but is also widening the gap.
No matter these poll results, the leader of the Historical Pact, a coalition of alternative, progressive and leftist forces in Colombia, maintains his electoral campaign throughout the national territory, with him explaining every detail of the programmatic platform that has particularities for each region, depending on whether it is agricultural, indigenous, port communities, and others.
In addition to the tours and mass events in departments, municipalities, communities, villages, squares and parks, Petro meets with the representatives of the population in his new Petro Escucha (“Petro Listens”) space to hear their main problems and proposed solutions and continue building the program government collectively.
The electorate will choose the president and vice president of the country for the 2022-2026 period in the presidential elections scheduled for next May 29th.
The winning formula must obtain half plus one of the total valid votes, otherwise a second round will be held on June 19th between the two candidates with the highest number of votes, and the one who obtains the victory will govern for a period of four years without a right for reelection.
