Israeli army calls up more reservists against Palestinians

Tel Aviv, Apr 28 (Prensa Latina) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday that it will be calling up six reserve battalions to active service to use them in the offensive it is carrying out in the occupied West Bank.

On its Twitter account, the military group stated that the soldiers will be deployed in that territory, especially along the so-called buffer zone, located between the security wall built by Tel Aviv and the Green Line, the de facto border prior to the 1967 conflict.

The decision to call up the reserve in the coming weeks follows an assessment of the situation and it was approved by Armed Forces Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi, the IDF stated.

The Jerusalem Post revealed that the IDF has reinforced its presence in the West Bank in recent weeks by deploying 12 additional battalions to reach 25.

Israel launched a major operation in the West Bank since early April, focused on the northern city of Jenin.

The military campaign coincided with the Muslin holy month of Ramadan, and more than a week of daily raids by Israeli soldiers against the Esplanade of the Mosques in East Jerusalem, which caused harsh criticism from both Palestinians and the Muslim world.
